Rack Housing
Rackhousing
The server systems of IP-Projects GmbH & Co. KG are located exclusively in highly certified data centers in the greater Frankfurt area. All racks have the following equipment as standard, which meets the highest demands for high-quality IT infrastructure:
- Redundant power feeds A+B
- Redundant switch stack (top-of-rack)
- C13/14 PDUs
Servers with a maximum housing depth of 1000 mm can be installed within the racks. The power consumption of the servers is determined based on the maximum power consumption (TDP) of the CPU.
100% Green Electricity
Each of our data center locations has a green electricity certificate. This guarantees that the electricity is generated from renewable energy, for example hydro or wind power.
Webinterface
As a housing customer, you - just like our rental server customers - have the option of using our web interface to manage your server, for example to manage your IP addresses or monitor your server's traffic consumption.
DDoS Protection
For a small surcharge, we offer flexible and highly efficient DDoS protection to protect your dedicated servers from denial of service attacks. At IP-Projects, we rely on a DDoS protection solution developed exclusively for our customers, which can be flexibly adapted to the needs of our customers.
Access
We grant our customers 24/7/365 access to the data center. For individual servers by appointment via our customer support, for own racks with their own permanent access to the data center.
On-Site Technician
During our business hours, we have our own technical staff on site at the IP-Projects data center locations in the Frankfurt area. Outside of business hours, our support team is available for urgent faults.
Crossconnect
Crossconnect to other service providers within the data center campus is possible at low cost via our existing patch panels. Thanks to good contacts and business relationships, provision is usually made within a very short time.
Network
Our network is completely maintenance-tolerant right down to the server itself. Each server has two separate network connections that run via different switches within the IP-Projects infrastructure. The switches in turn are connected redundantly right through to the routing.
Provisioning
IP-Projects always focuses on the fast and uncomplicated commissioning of your IT infrastructure. Our colocation areas are already prepared for our housing customers to move in, so that provision can be guaranteed within the shortest possible time.
What hardware can I install?

It is possible to install normal server systems in our shared colocation as long as they are in 19-inch format and have a CE mark for safe power concepts. It is important that the server systems for housing have redundant power supply units to ensure an even distribution of power to both power feeds of the data center.
How does the electricity bill work?

Electricity billing for colocation racks at IP-Projects is always based on power (watts). This means that the consumption and provision of power are already included in the rack price. We mainly calculate according to the so-called Thermal Design Power (TDP) of the server CPU, as the CPU is the largest consumer in the server system and experience has shown it to be a reliable value for the total consumption of the server. For servers with dedicated GPUs (e.g. for AI systems), the TDP of the graphics cards or AI accelerators is also taken into account. Billing according to exact consumption (kWh per month) is currently not available at IP-Projects.
Which Internet connection is available?

At IP-Projects, we can offer various Internet connections within our racks. By default, our colocation spaces are provided with 1 Gigabit/s RJ45 network. 10 Gigabit/s / 40 Gigabit/s / 100 Gigabit/s and 400 Gigabit/s are also possible, but the costs for these vary greatly. Colocation racks are always connected to at least 2x 10 Gigabit/s redundant network uplinks, which are mapped as a so-called Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP). Network bandwidths provided by us in the colocation area can be used to the full extent.
How are remote hands billed?

If remote hands are required by our technicians on your server, they will be billed every 15 minutes. You can of course request a cost and time estimate from our customer support before the remote hands are carried out.
Can remote hands be booked at a specific time?

Yes - remote hands can be carried out at a specific time after consultation with our technical operations department. Please note, however, that additional costs may be incurred if remote hands are carried out outside of our business hours, for example for an on-call technician.
Do I have 24/7/365 access to my colocation server?

Yes - 24/7/365 access to your customer systems is possible - for individual servers in our shared colocation racks, advance registration via our customer support is required; for your own racks, permanent access to the data center is possible. Please do not hesitate to contact us.
Will I receive an on-site briefing?

Yes - each of our colocation customers receives a free on-site briefing to ensure our high standards of cabling and server installation are maintained within our racks.
Do I need to bring my own network and power cables?

No - the network cables for your new colocation system will be clearly labeled for you as an IP-Projects customer by our IP-Projects team on site and prepared accordingly in the colocation rack before you move in. We also provide C13/C14 power cables with IEC lock that are compatible with the power distribution units (PDUs) used. You therefore do not need to purchase any power cables or network cables.
Which data center locations are available?

Our shared colocation areas are currently available at the data center locations
- FRA1 - NTT
- FRA4 - nLighten are available. On request, we can also offer you colocation space at our PoP (Point-of-Present) locations. However, only full racks are possible here. The IP-Projects PoP locations are:
- FRA5-Equinix
- FRA11-InterXion (Digital Realty Campus)
How am I differentiated from other customers on the network side?

Network-side segmentation is carried out by IP-Projects according to V-LAN. Depending on your requirements, we can provide your own IP subnets in your own V-LAN or integrate your server into an existing shared V-LAN.
Is it possible to manage housing servers?

We can only offer server management on server hardware from IP-Projects. This is the only way we can ensure that the server hardware meets our IP-Projetcs quality standards and that we have sufficient spare parts available in our spare parts warehouse.
Serverhousing in the rack area
What is colocation / housing?
Colocation or housing is an umbrella term that describes the placement of server systems within a data center environment. As a customer, you have the option of purchasing your own hardware and storing this hardware in an air-conditioned data center environment. Important factors for calculating the costs are:
- Network / traffic usage of the server
- Power consumption of the server
- Size / nature of the server housing
These factors then result in the main costs for server housing in a data center.
You can then operate services such as websites, databases, game servers or even commercial applications on the server and make them available on the Internet.
Advantages and disadvantages of housing
The main advantage of rack housing is that you only have to pay the costs for operating the server, not the acquisition costs. The server rental of a rental server still includes a portion for amortization and acquisition of the server system. This share is an essential part of a server rental and is of course not applicable as you have purchased the server system yourself.
One disadvantage, however, is that you have to provide a replacement yourself if the server is defective. If, for example, a required spare part is not in stock at the data center, this can result in longer downtimes as you first have to obtain a replacement. Likewise, if you are unable to travel to the data center yourself or have a service contract with a service provider, additional remote hands costs will be incurred for technicians who carry out a replacement on your behalf.
Colocation service at IP-Projects
24/7/365 colocation access
You can access the colocation area around the clock by prior arrangement in order to carry out maintenance on your server or to replace it. If new technical specifications result from the replacement of the server, the colocation costs must be recalculated. Permanent access using an access card is possible if your colocation is a full rack. In the case of individual HEs, setting up permanent access is unfortunately too expensive, especially for short contract periods.
Spare parts warehouse for colocation customers
As a server provider, we at IP-Projects guarantee that we always have suitable spare parts in stock for you as a rental server customer. This guarantee results in a very extensive stock of spare parts, which we keep on site in our data center in Frankfurt. If necessary, we can also sell urgently required spare parts to colocation customers from this spare parts warehouse and install them directly in colocation servers. We are happy to provide a list of available spare parts in advance, which are located directly on site in the warehouse, in order to clarify whether the planned rack server has suitable components. As we are currently unable to provide individually lockable storage areas, it is unfortunately not possible to store spare parts for customers within our IP-Projects storage capacities. This would only be possible via rack drawers on the HEs within the racks.
Colocation power calculation
Power consumption is usually billed on the basis of a complete rack. After booking the colocation space, we therefore need information from you as the customer about the hardware in the housing server. The reference value for power consumption is the maximum power consumption of the CPU. This has proven to be a suitable reference value for the average power consumption of server systems in the IP-Projects rental server sector. We would be happy to calculate an individual offer for our colocation space based on the server hardware you use.
