Windows vServer
Special features Windows vServer
Our Windows vServers run on an NVMe storage vServer environment. This guarantees our customers optimal performance when using the remote desktop services of their Windows server. Thanks to sufficient I/O performance, the reliability and availability of our Windows server instances is very high even for particularly compute-intensive applications. Many of our customers rent our Windows vServers to run:
- JTL Warenwirtschaft for their online store
- Outsourcing accounting to a central VM
- Stock market applications for real time trading
- Hosting of Windows based custom software within a data center environment
Each Windows SSD vServer node is redundantly connected to the network and power within our data center environment in Frankfurt to reliably realize maximum availability on the hardware side.
Thanks to our SPLA (Service Provider License Agreement) partnership with Microsoft, we can also provide all Windows server operating systems at no extra charge. The Windows version does not matter to us and you can always use the latest Windows Server operating systems in the variant Windows Datacenter Server or Windows Standard Server. The Microsoft license costs are included when renting the Windows server.

The administration of our vServers is handled via our self-developed vServer management system. Installation, restarts, monitoring, IP management, and traffic analysis become effortless.
Through the individual dialogs, you always have direct access to the most important parameters and actions.
We offer all common operating systems for installation. Either as an automatic Cloud-Init installation. If we do not offer your desired operating system, ISO images can also be installed via VNC access.
Whether it's installation or troubleshooting. With VNC, you have direct access to your vServer at all times.
Snapshot and backup management is also simple and clear. This means you have everything under control, even if a problem arises.

100% Green Power
Each of our data center locations has a green power certificate. This guarantees that the electricity is generated from renewable sources such as hydro or wind power.
Simple Server Management
In order to make the administration of the Windows vServer as simple as possible, a comprehensive, server management panel, developed by ourselves, is at your disposal.
KVM Virtualization
All Windows vServer are run on a KVM environment. This is a full virtualization, which also allows the use of own operating systems. We guarantee the provision of dedicated performance in this case!
DDoS Protection
For a small extra charge we offer a flexible and highly efficient DDoS Protection to protect your Windows vServer from so-called Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. In doing so, we rely on a solution developed exclusively for our customers, which can be flexibly adapted to their needs!
Upgrade Possible Anytime
An upgrade of a Windows vServer to a larger tariff is possible at any time without reinstallation. if there are not enough resources left on the host system of your vServer, we can migrate the Windows vServer to another node in live operation.
Frequently asked questions
What is a Windows vServer?

A Windows vServer is a virtual machine that runs in our new KVM virtualized environment. A virtual machine is run in parallel with other virtual machines on the same physical server hardware (host). This is particularly cost-efficient, as license costs and server costs are spread across all customers on a Windows vServer host. This setup also scores points in terms of green IT, as the existing hardware is better utilized.
How does a Windows vServer differ from a Windows Server?

The biggest difference between a Windows vServer and a bare-metal Windows Dedicated Server is that with a vServer, several customers share one physical server. Although this may sound negative at first, it also has several advantages. The so-called hypervisor (in our case KVM), which forms the basis for all virtual machines, also makes numerous additional functions possible. These include, for example, very simple snapshots and backups, but also the migration of the complete virtual machine to another physical system in the event of a fault.
How to back up data on a Windows vServer?

Thanks to our virtualization technology, you hardly have to worry about data backups. A daily data backup is created from your Windows vServer to one of our other locations. In the event of a failure, you therefore have the option of restoring the previous day's backup via our Windows vServer management system. If a longer Windows vServer backup cycle is required, you also have the option of extending the backup retention period for an additional charge. A maximum period of 7 days is currently possible here. As an alternative to our integrated backups, we also offer the option of booking a backup drive. Here, for example, you can create backups from a software of your choice and store them centrally. The network drive is provided with the help of SMBv3, which enables direct integration as a network drive in the Windows vServer.
Is the license included with a Windows vServer?

With our Windows virtual machines, you don't have to worry about license costs. Thanks to our Microsoft SPLA partnership, all operating system licenses are already included in the rental price of the virtual machines.
How do I reach my Windows vServer?

Access is usually via a remote desktop connection (RDP). All you need is a PC, tablet or similar with the necessary program installed. On Windows systems, this program (mstsc) is usually pre-installed. With Linux operating systems, for example, rdesktop can be installed later. In terms of hardware, low-performance PCs or so-called thin clients are absolutely sufficient, as the workload of the programs lies exclusively on the Windows vServer itself. Your Internet connection should have a bandwidth of at least 6-10 Mbit/s to ensure a comfortable screen transfer speed.
What are the most important key points?

Full control & flexibility
You get full root or administrator rights, which means you can fully customize the system to your needs - install software, configure services, manage users, etc.
Remote access via RDP
Thanks to Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP), you can access the server at any time and from anywhere - almost as if you were sitting in front of it. Ideal for working on the move or central administration.
Scalability
vServers can be scaled flexibly. If your project grows, you can easily book more RAM, CPU or storage space, for example, without having to change hardware. This is possible as part of our Windows vServer packages.
Cost efficiency
Compared to a dedicated server, a vServer is significantly cheaper, but still offers the same advantages of a dedicated Windows system - a good balance of price and performance.
Isolation
Even if the resources of the physical server are shared with other Windows vServer customers, your vServer is isolated. This means: security and stability - other customers cannot influence or manipulate your server.
Possible uses
A Windows vServer is suitable for e.g:
- Hosting of IIS websites or MSSQL databases
- Operation of Windows software (e.g. ERP systems, accounting software - Lexware)
- Game server or bot hosting
- Test or development environments
Compatibility with Windows software
A big plus point compared to Linux distributions: You can run Windows-based applications natively, without any workarounds or emulation.
Windows vServer Operating Systems
Windows vServer Administration
Windows vServer administration features
Of course, basic vServer administration functions are available with all our vServer products. These include:
- starting / stopping / restarting
- (re)installation
- VNC remote access
- stats like utilization and traffic
Following features are available with each of our vServer offerings:
Windows vServer Backup Management
To always have a backup of your current data, each of our Windows vServer includes free backups of the last 24 hours.
The backups are also stored decentrally in a separate data center so that data loss due to a fire is impossible.
Windows vServer Operating System Installation
The installation of our Windows SSD vServer is possible per 1-click via our server management. All current Windows Server operating systems are available. If you still need a special Windows partitioning or version, an installation using the Windows ISO is also available as an option. You can also integrate your own ISO images via the server management.
The ISO installation then takes place with the help of a VNC console, which is directly integrated into our server management. An additional VNC client is not required to use this management function.
Permanent VNC Console
To ensure that you always have the ability to access the virtual machine regardless of the Windows vServer operating system, a permanent VNC console is available through our vServer administration panel. Therefore, if you make any misconfigurations - for example on the network - you can use this VNC console to undo the misconfiguration without the need for our customer support or restoring a backup.
The VNC console can be called directly from the web interface. An additional VNC client is not required, which makes working with VNC much easier at this point.
IP and R-DNS Management
Of course you can view your IP addresses and set R-DNS / PTR entries via our Windows vServer management. Setting R-DNS / PTR entries on an IP address is necessary to ensure smooth email traffic. Many e-mail servers on the Internet reject e-mails if no R-DNS / PTR entry is set for an IP address. Our name servers are also secured using DNSSEC to prevent manipulation of these entries by third parties. Likewise, all IP addresses that we provide to our customers are secured using RPKI.
